Building blocks
- Family tree
- Calculation
- Sources
- Library
The question
Historical calculations and traditions need a presentation that shows sources and limits.Different kinds of statements should not appear equally authoritative.
What was built
A digital family tree with Abjad, zodiac and Hijri date calculations.Statements are identified as calculation, tradition or symbol.
Approach
The design first separated what can be calculated, what comes from sources and what is symbolic interpretation. That distinction shapes the interface and labels.
Limits and risks
Symbolic interpretations can be confused with sourced statements.Labels make the difference visible.Calculations involving family data stay in the browser on the device.
What comes next
The built bookshop has not yet been released.Additional source references will be reviewed before publication.
What it does
- Family tree with calculations for every person
- Every statement carries its label: calculated, handed down or symbol
- Calculation runs in the browser, nothing is sent to a server
- Arabic, German, English, Spanish and Chinese
- Calm reading surfaces for long texts
